Acupuncture Coulsdon

At Acupuncture Coulsdon, I practice Traditional Acupuncture. It is an ancient healing system originating in China over 2000 years ago. The discovery was that the stimulation of specific areas of the skin affected certain organ functions. The connection and understanding between skin and organs evolved into a healing system. Over time, more sensitive stimulation methods provided further benefits. Using extremely fine stainless steel needles (a hair’s width) stimulates the body’s energy pathways.

Furthermore, the needles release blockages, which stimulate energy flow and help regulate/balance a person’s qi (energy). Moxibustion is the application of heat to the acupuncture points using a herb called Mug Wort Artemisia. It enhances the overall therapeutic effect when used in addition to the needles.

Acupuncture Coulsdon – Ancient Healing in a Modern World

This healing system focuses on the whole person, not just the symptoms. It begins with a diagnosis of the individual’s energy imbalance.  With traditional acupuncture, no mind-body split exists.  Therefore, life’s physical, emotional, and mental aspects remain interdependent. The distribution of a person’s energy occurs through twelve energy pathways. Each pathway links to a major organ. Various patterns of energy imbalance called syndromes occur. Moreover, each organ has an associated pulse (located on the radial artery). These inform the practitioner about the energy of that organ.  The tongue also provides part of the diagnosis. The practitioner will choose points on the pathways following a diagnosis. The treatment aims to restore the overall energy balance. This improves the person’s specific condition as well as the person’s general well-being.

Traditional acupuncture is highly effective at treating many health conditions {see page above).
